Mateusz Gamrot seems to have a perfect game plan for his upcoming fight at UFC 280, which takes place on Saturday 22nd October at the Etihad Arena in Yas Island, Abu Dhabi UAE.
Gamrot faces the Iranian streaking contender Beneil Dariush on the Main Card of the event and believes that the later will have no reply for his ground work, which will make him easily finish-able once the fight hits the mat.
Dariush is not a learner on the canvas, with most of his wins coming via stoppages and submissions but Gamrot is feeling he has the biggest chance of emerging victorious once the fight turns into grappling.
“Beneil is good everywhere,” Gamrot told MMA Junkie and other reporters at Wednesday’s UFC 280 media day. “He’s an all-rounder, big, strong, put pressure in striking, heavy kicks, but I’m a wrestler, and jiu-jitsu is my DNA. We meet in the ground, and I am sure that I finish him on the ground.”
The Polish fighter Gamrot, who is also a former KSW champion is looking to sneak into the higher ranks of the UFC Lightweight division with a win over Beneil on Saturday Night.
“I’m super excited that I can fight with Beneil Dariush,” Gamrot said. “He’s one of the best guys in the division. Now he’s No. 6 in the rankings. For sure if I beat him Saturday night, I enter the top five.”
