Volkan Oezdemir Draws More Motivation From Gustafsson’s Loss To Nikita Krylov Ahead Of UFC 280

Volkan Oezdemir is drawing more motivation from the fact that defeating Nikita Krylov will also mean avenging the loss of his teammate Alexander Gustafsson, when they collide in the Undercard of UFC 280 on Saturday Night, 22nd October at the Ethiad Arena, Yas Island, Abu Dhabi.

Both fighters were destined to meet after both emerged victorious in their respective bouts this past July, Krylov (28-9 MMA, 9-7 UFC) seemed eager for their meeting and called out Oezdemir (18-6 MMA, 6-5 UFC) during his post fight interview. The two were then matched up for a meeting at UFC 280.

The Month of July had a mixed for Oezdemir and his team as while he was celebrating his spectacular streak ending victory over Paul Craig, Krylov scored a very quick knockout victory over Oezdemir’s teammate Gustafsson. However, Oezdemir plans to bring a different style to his upcoming opponent.

“This kind of fight makes sense for me,” Oezdemir told MMA Junkie. “I’ve got to go there and avenge my teammate and get the victory.”

“Obviously Gustafsson was his biggest win ever. His biggest fight, his biggest win and something that made him shine, but definitely it’s gonna be different with me. I’m here to impose my style, and I’m here to impose my game.”

Oezdemir will be looking to win two consecutive victories after his impressive last outing and after that will look for a higher ranked fighter, specifically a top five opponent as he looks to move up the Light Heavyweight ranks and possibly earn a titl shot in the nearest future.

“It’s always good, because I’m here to stay,” Oezdemir said of bouncing back. “I’m here to climb the ranks, to get victory after victory, and now it’s good to get this behind and continue the winning streak.” He said.

“Definitely it’s gonna make me improve, but then I obviously need a top-five guy after that just to put my name in the mix of the title shot. So, I need a victory against the top five after this fight.”
