Isreal Gonzalez is looking to make his fifth attempt at a world title a charm having lost his last four title fights. This time he faces the undefeated Jesse Rodriguez in the biggest stage of their careers, serving as the the Co Main event of the Canelo Alvarez Vs Gennadiy Golovkin 3 fight card.

Rodriguez has been a rare discovery, moving up in weight to face Carlos Cuadras for the vacant WBC super flyweight champion after Srisaket Sor Rungvisai fell seriously ill and had to pull out. Rodriguez announced his arrival at the world scene taking full advantage of the opportunity and will look to retain the title in the front of the biggest audience.

The fight card which was put together to celebrate the Mexican independence day will be headlined by one of the most anticipated fights of 2022. The third meeting between the “Face of Boxing” and Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez and Gennadiy GGG Golovkin for the undisputed super middleweight title.

Jesse Rodriguez

Rodriguez was able to drop the former champion Carlos Cuadras in the third round with a rightly placed uppercut and coupled that with a good boxing display to earn himself a unanimous decision. His next battle was much more risky as he took on the hard hitting Sor Rungvisai, a two time champion with so much experience. Rodriguez dropped Sor Rungvisai in the seventh round with a rightly placed right hook and then overwhelmed him in the eight round, rocking him and forcing a stoppage with a flurry.

Gonzalez will look to overcome his limitations in his fifth attempt at a world title, having failed in his previous four attempts, the Mexican will take on his fellow countryman this time with hopes of winning the WBC super flyweight title.

His previous attempts were against hard hitting southpaw Jerwin Ancajas, who stopped him in the sixth round to retain the IBF super flyweight title in 2018. In 2019, he lost a unanimous decision to Kai Yafai in their WBA Super Flyweight title still in 2018. In 2020, he took on Roman Gonzalez, who had viciously knocked out Kai Yafai to win the WBA Belt. The more experienced Chocolatito dominated Gonzalez to win a unanimous decision.

He then traveled to enemy territory in his world title attempt, taking on Jose Martinez for the vacant WBO Bantamweight title. The two battle and after the fight was over, two judges scores the fight draw, while one saw him winning. Hopefully, his hard work pays off this time.
