UFC 270 Results – Deiveson Figueiredo Decisions Brandon Moreno In Trilogy, Reclaims Flyweight Title
Deiveson Figueiredo regained the flyweight title at UFC 270, defeating Brandon Moreno by outworking Champion in the Co Main Event on Saturday night at the Honda Centre In Anaheim California. The fight was Live on Pay-Per-View following prelims on ESPN/ESPN+.
Figueiredo picked up a close Unanimous Decision over Moreno (19-5-2 MMA, 7-2-2 UFC) in their third meeting with scores 48-47 on all three judges scorecards. The two first met at UFC 256 and that ended in a majority draw and their second meeting was in UFC 263, when Moreno submitted Figueiredo in the their round to win the title.
The fight was all round competitive starting from the opening round when Moreno was the aggressor and kept pushing Figueiredo. But the former champion was okay fighting from the back foot and countering the champion.
Figueiredo took his target to the legs and landed some good leg kicks that seemed to affect Moreno’s Ballance but Moreno kept composure and was able to land big shots to seem to startle Figueiredo when ever it connected.
Figueiredo took the fight to another level in the third round, clinched and took down Moreno built the cage and the champion quickly got back to his feet. Figueiredo then connected a big right that sent Moreno off Balance backing it up with another but the Brazilian did his best to fight back in the contest. Figueiredo then sent Moreno to the canvas with a big right, then went in with submission attempts ones Moreno landed on the canvas. His guillotine choke attempt was successful as he ran out of time.
The fourth and fifth round were still competitive ones as Figueiredo was still focused on his leg kicks which brought him more results, while Moreno would reply with combinations but Figueiredo was doing the most damage and showed more power while doing so. However, both fighters for engaged in a wild brawl late in the fight until the final bell rang.
Figueiredo was victorious for the first time against Moreno, whom he has now faced three straight times, the first trilogy without a fight between them. They both fought to a draw in their first meeting. Figueiredo was submitted in the second and now a unanimous decision victory for Figueiredo. This result opens up a possibility for a fourth fight between the two.
