Zelfa Barrett bluntly battled himself into a potential IBF featherweight title shot as he showed levels higher than Bruno Tarimo, crusing to a unanimous decision victory on Joseph Parker Vs Dereck Chisora Rematch fight card in Manchester.
Tarimo was the aggressor for most of the fight but Barrett was smarter than the Tanzanian, who is fighting out of Australia. Barrett was able to pick him apart from a distance. Barrett was huge and towered over the Tarimo and used his reach advantage well having Tarimo, walk constantly through punches to get to him. The fight was scored by Howard Foster and Vincent Dupas scored it 117-110, Paolo Ruggeri had it 116-111.
Tarimo never gave up and was constantly handing out pressure and even caused Barrett a few problems and forced him to backtrack and flick punches to try keep Tarimo away.
Barrett was able to hold himself and faced Tarimo in the thirds round. Barrett used one two’s to keep Tarimo in his range and then a body shot stopped Tarimo and a follow up left hook dropped him. From then on, Barrett began having success with his right hooks and a left uppercut.
Barrett was in control through the mid stages of the fight when things slowed and Tarimo’s pressure was reduced and whenever Tarimo tried to overstep, Barrett was ready to connect his right and his jab to keep Tarimo off balance.
Tarimo was able to put a huge showing in the eleventh round and using more pressure and maintains. Barrett responded with a huge uppercut but Tarimo didn’t stop or show any sign of stopping till the final bell.
