Ketlen Vieira picked up the biggest win of her professional career with a Unanimous decision over Former Meisha Tate in the main event of UFC Vegas 43 (Fight Night 198) which took place an Saturday night at the UFC Apex Facility in Las Vegas Nevada.
Vieira (12-2 MMA, 6-2 UFC) was accurate and showed good speed and precision, which created a lot of problems for Tate Tate (19-8 MMA, 6-5 UFC) while cruising to a unanimous decision 48-47 (x2) and a 49-46.
Both fighters started our with touching gloves , then began seeking for openings to establish their range. Vieira was the first fighter to lunch forward with intentions of catching Tate’s attention. Tate was a lot more calculative in her approach and waited patiently for openings and when she found some, had some success towards the end of the round. Vieira shot for a takedown late but Tate countered and ended on top before time ran out.
Both fighters stood toe to toe in the second round and traded strikes in the second round, Vieira let his left Jab out through out the round but Tate would charge in temporarily with flurries but Vieira will take it well, reply the surge and then work back to using his Jab.
Tate kept the techniques from the second round in the third and used speed and flurries to break through behind Vieira’s Jab. However, the fight got stopped momentarily because of an accidental eye poke from the former champion. The reach was mostly a problem for Tate, who now fought dirty with clinching and was able to land knees towards the end of the round.
Tate began the fourth round with a lot more aggression and went in for the kill, landing strikes and completing a takedown but Vieira was able to get back to her feet immediately. Tate maintained a clinch by the fence. Both got separated before Tate got herself a Thai clinch but Vieira responded, landing strikes that forced a separation.
The final round was much faster on pace than the first four rounds and Tate like the fourth lunched forward with vicious strikes, only to get countered by Vieira and that bloodied Tate. Tate kept going for it but Vieira kept Tate at bay with her left Jab till the final horn was heard.
Vieira bounced back to the win column with a win over Tate and has since 2018 been fluctuating wins and losses, since losing her four fight winning streak in the promotion, when she first joined the promotion. The win over Tate should walk her close to getting a title shot.
Meisha Tate came back from retirement back in June and restarted her career with a TKO victory over Marion Reneau at UFC On ESPN 26. However refreshed she was in the first, she runs into her first setback against Vieira and that will take her back to drawing board ahead of her dream of another title run.
