Saul Canelo Alvarez finally makes history with a violent and brutal 11 round demolition of Caleb Plant in their undisputed Super Middleweight Championship fight on Saturday night at th3 MGM Grand Arena.

The Referee Russell Mora stepped in at exactly 1:05 of the eleventh round to stop the Showtime Pay-Per-View event, which took place in-front of a 16586 crowd.

Plant was tough through those rounds and displayed a lot of skill, making the high pressing Canelo miss many times. However, Plant never had enough power to get Canelo off him making him fight on that backfoot and giving him edge throughout the rounds.

Before the knockout, the judges Judges Steve Weisfeld (98-92), Dave Moretti (97-93) and Patricia Morse Jarman (96-94) all had Canelo, who entered the fight a 7-1 favourite ahead and with the win, he retained the WBC, WBO and WBA World titles and also added the IBF 168 pound title.

After the fight Canelo Alvarez had nothing but praise for the former champion and praised his skills, which he admitted caused him a lot of problems during the fight.

“Caleb is a good fighter,” Alvarez told Showtime’s Jim Gray in the ring following his win. “I have a lot of respect for Caleb Plant. He was a difficult opponent, with a lot of ability, and I do respect him. We are both men at the end of the day. He wanted to fight me and still continue. I told him there’s no shame. We had a great fight tonight.”

Plant was taken to a nearby Hospital for check up after the fight and wasn’t available for any comments following the event.

However, Canelo Alvarez has now became the sixth fully unified Champions of the four belt era. A list that includes former undisputed junior welterweight champ Terence Crawford, current undisputed junior welterweight champ Josh Taylor Bernard Hopkins and Jermain Taylor, former undisputed cruiserweight champ Oleksandr Usyk.

Canelo was very happy to achieve the feet and believes that the record is something huge for the Mexicans, admits that it keeps him happy and motivated to continue.

“This means so much for the history of Mexico to become an undisputed champion,” Alvarez said. “There are only six undisputed champions in history. It keeps me happy and very motivated to be one of the six.”

Canelo Alvarez has not lost a fight since losing to Floyd Mayweather Jr. back in 2013 and becomes the first fighter to achieve that feet in the space of eleven months. Alvarez started out with a unanimous decision victory over Callum Smith back in December 2020, unified the WBO title with an eight round knockout victory over Billy Joe Saunders and completed the Mables today with Caleb plant.

Plant (21-1, 12 KOs) was defeated for the first time since turning Pro but has never fought a fighter in Canelo Alvarez’s level. Plant defended the IBF 168 Pound title thrice before losing to Alvarez and held the title since out-pointing Jose Uzcategui to win the title.

“He was making the fight pretty difficult, but Eddy told me to just stick to the game plan in the last two rounds,” Alvarez recalled. “In the end, I got him. That’s the way it had to finish. He was already hurt and I went for the kill.”

Canelo Alvarez finished off Plant with body shots as according to statistics Canelo connected 101 bodyshots out of 117 punches throughout the eleven rounds. Plant however with height and reach advantage, landed more jabs than punches.

Plant received a big body-shot that forced him to drop his arms to the canvas and stumbled across the ring while answering the referee’s count. He tried to continue but Alvarez jumped on him and connected a huge combination to the body which forced him down and eventually knocked out.
