Krzysztof Jotko picked up a split decision victory over Misha Cirkunov in the main card of UFC Fight Night 193 (UFC Vegas 38) on Saturday night at the UFC Apex Facility in Las Vegas Nevada.
Cirkunov was making his Middleweight debut but Jotko had his plans, picking Cirkunov apart from range over three rounds to earn a split decision on the Judges score cards. Two judges 29-28 scored the fight in favour of Jotko while Cirkunov received a 29-28 from the third judge.
Jotko made use of his striking range to avoid Cirkunov, who looked to close the distance and take the fight to the canvas in the first round. Jotko was overly conscious of his reach and didn’t extend himself enough to grant Cirkunov an opportunity to initiate his grappling.
Cirkunov made an attempt to and almost got his takedown but Jotko fouled him with a face grab that missed the referee’s eyes and immediately they were both separated, Jotko covered Cirkunov with quick hand combinations but still stayed away from Cirkunov.
Cirkunov finally got his wish and took the fight to the canvas in the final round but wasn’t able to get control. Jotko was able to escape and get back to his feet. Jotko continued his range shots but wasn’t able to land with power, possibly because of his technique but he scored a late takedown, which played a big role in handing him the decision.
Jotko has now registered three wins in four appearances with Cirkunov win inclusive. Cirkunov has now lost two straight bouts and this was his first fight since moving up to middleweight.
