Teofimo Lopez defeats Vasily Lomachenko

Unified Lightweight titlist Teofimo Lopez has been through so much recently, that he had contemplated suicide thrice within the space of a year.

Teofimo Lopez Jr had an admirable 2020, out-pointing the formerly unbeaten Vasily Lomachenko to unify the Lightweight division but things soon went south fir the Dominican Republican as a Legal case with Top Rank followed and the frequent postponement of his upcoming defense against George Kambasos Jr, triggered his low levels.

Lopez was however happy the fight had finally gotten a set date and a streaming platform “Triller”, who were the highest bidder for the the fight with a piece of $6,018,000 but IBF made a filling on Wednesday, making Triller the default and giving Eddie Hearn’s Match Room the Rights to promote the fight.

“Everything happens for its reasons, so you have to have a lot of faith in it,” Lopez told a group of reporters who were gathered at the MGM Grand media room in Las Vegas on Wednesday days before the Tyson Fury vs. Deontay Wilder trilogy.

“People say what’s the sacrifice. People think sacrifice is killing people. But the sacrifice really is just love, and that starts with you. That’s what happened with me. I took a step back and was like, man, I’m really thinking about killing myself. That’s how serious it got. Not once. Not twice. Maybe like three times. I was like, that ain’t right. Why am I going to want to kill myself with the blessings that I’m receiving?

The 24 year old had to take some time off to take care of himself after all the news and promised never to lose his head despite becoming the undisputed champion at 135 pounds.

“I had to take a step back, get off the phone, because that sh!t is toxic. It really is. People can get like that with you. Negative people can really bring negative mindsets. I took care of my body and thanked Lord for his grace and mercy.

“Humbleness and awareness will always go far. I won’t ever change, even after becoming undisputed [champion at 135].”

The fight was initially announced for May 29, June 19th, August  14th and October 4th were the dates with the next fight date almost being shifted by Triller to October 17th
