Kownacki was handed a one-sided beat-down from the opening bell. The 37 year old Helenius, battered the defenceless Kownacki till the referee decided the fight shouldn’t continue in the sixth round. Despite that, Kownacki was deducted a point for low blows in the fifth and by the time of the stoppage, his eyes were almost shut due to taking too much punishment.
Helenius improved his record to 33-3, with 20 KOs, while Kownacki (20-2, 15 KOs) lost for the second consecutive time by stoppage and all by the hands of Helenius. Speaking after the fight, Helenius made it sound easy.
“It was good,” Helenius said. “Either way, it would have been a stoppage. I had a lot of good shots tonight and he didn’t have any. I expected it because what does he have? Don’t get me wrong – he’s a good brawler, but I’ve been fighting brawlers for 20 years. I know how to deal with them, even if they are hitting me low or behind the head. That doesn’t bother me.”
