Andrei Arlovski keeps reminding the MMA community that age is still a number and this time he did it with a unanimous decision over Carlos Filipe in the Co-Main Event of UFC Vegas 38 (Fight Night 195) which took place on Saturday October 16th at the UFC Apex Facility.
The 42 year old Arlovski has accumulated a 4 – 1 record in his last five outings and in his latest victory showed great movement and utilised more angles in his attacks. He dominated the first two rounds and also did enough to hold himself amid a late comeback from Filipe in the final round.
Arlovski earned himself a 29-28 on all the Judges scorecards, which improved his record to (32-20, 2 No-Contest).
“I knew I won the first two rounds,” Arlovski said about the confidence he felt in the decision. “I’m like Nike, just do it.”
Arlovski was tactical in his approach in the opening round made use of calculated pressure to avoid getting hit with Felipe’s haymakers, which was tainted with so much power. He would brisk in and out connecting a combination of punches , a move that preceded his bodykicks.
Arlovski was clever, he somehow used his ability to connect his punches then no out of reach before Felipe’s righthands will get to him. This piled up frustration for the Brazilian. By the end of the second round, tables were beginning to torn as Felipe began connecting his big right hands more.
Arlovski slowed down,Felipe was avle to detect the gradually slowing power and movement from the former heavyweight champion and upped his output, looking to get a knockout in each of his strikes.
Felipe was in full control in the third round and kept working down Arlovski by that wasn’t enough to earn him the victory after so much work from the 42 year old.
