Light heavyweight contender Anthony Smith exposed Ryan Span to the clear reality that he isn’t ready for the UFC top 10 at UFC Fight Night 192 (UFC Vegas 37) which took place on Saturday Night at the UFC Apex Facility, Nevada Las Vegas.
Smith’s (36-16 MMA, 11-6 UFC) showed class in the match up and superiority in both striking and grappling. Smith rocked Spann (19-7 MMA, 5-2 UFC) more than ones in the match up before finishing him off with a Rare Naked Choke in the first round.
Both Men came for blood in the first round and both engaged in wild exchanges but Smith got the better of him, clipped him with a big right that and dropped him. Smith jumped in him to find the finish but failed, he tried to lock him up with Armbar but that failed too as Spann got free and escaped.
Smith was still in charge if the exchanges after they both got to their feets, Spann got clipped again with Smith’s left hook that seem to regularly find its home. That rocked him and left Spann on shaky legs. The latter now tried switching the fight to the canvas but that gave Smith an opportunity to take that back flatten him and make him tap with the rare naked choke.
Smith reacted after the victory shouted in Spann’s face after the fight and things nearly got out of hand but eventually everybody involved got calm and they shook hands. Smith then turned his attention to Aleksander Rakic, who he had during the build up expressed interest in facing.
“I want Aleksander Rakic,” Smith said in his post-fight interview with Michael Bisping. “He’s just sitting around. He’s not getting the title. Either I get that fight or I’m going to skip him.”
