Watch Video Highlights Of Anthony Smith Vs Ryan Span Light Heavyweight in the Main Event of Saturday night in the Jat UFC Vegas 37.
Light Heavyweight contender Anthony Smith takes on Ryan Spann in the main event of UFC Vegas 37 (UFC Fight Night 192) which takes place on Saturday night at The UFC Apex Live on ESPN+.
Smith will look to work his way back to title contention after coming up short in his way up to a title shot against Glover Teixeira and sent further away by Alexander Rakic, who easily bullied him around. However, Smith bounced back from those losses with two straight first round finishes.
Despite the resurgence, the No. 6 ranked Smith will be serving as a gate keeper for the arriving Spann, who through the Contender Series has worked his way up the ladder and currently sits 11th in the ranking and will be bouncing into the top 10 with a victory over Smith.
Smith enters this fight with a 50+ professional fight experience and has fought all the big names in the UFC light heavyweight division, his key losses came in his fights against Jon Jones, Glover Teixeira, Aleksandar Rakic , Thiago Santos, Cezar Ferreira. His key wins include Volkan Oezdemir , Alexander Gustafsson, Jimmy Crute, Mauricio Rua, Hector Lombard e.t.c.
Smith bring a polished kickboxing game to the fight and will be looking to utilise distance to his advantage, which has always been his prefered method of winning a fight. However his main weakness shows up when the fight is taken to the mat.
Spann goes into this fight with about half as much fight fight Smith will be bringing to the Octagon. However, he has a good ground which has served as Smith’s Kryptonite. Spann has used his size to bully his opponent, eventually overwhelms his opponent to win a submission.
Spann has taken out Misha Cirkunov , Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, Devin Clark , Luis Henrique, Sam Alvey on his way to the top with quite a few setbacks as his losses include just two key losses Johnny Walker, Karl Roberson.
Smith definitely has the conditioning to fight all five rounds against any fighter in the UFC rankings. However, Spann will have to finish Smith early but after the first two rounds conditioning could come into play and Smith could them easily control the fight.
