Alex Morono claimed his second straight win Saturday at UFC Vegas 36 while setting up an impressive performance to beat David Zawada.
Over the course of three rounds, Morono took the lead at the right time, then hurled powerful punches to the back as he repeatedly overtook Zawada throughout the rally. In the end, all three judges gave the match score 3027 with Morono winning while rising to 52 in his last seven games.
“I’m happy to show everyone how [at my gym] goes with minimal preparation,” Morono said after accepting the fight at short notice. “KO is gold, bid is silver, decision is bronze and I’m always on the hunt for that gold.
As Zawada is able to place Morono with his hind legs, he finds a place to execute his punches with more regularity. When the second round started, Zawada wanted to watch this fight with many of the same moves, but he had to be wary as Morono didn’t lose confidence in his attacks.
Morono also started with a left handed brace, then delivered a powerful right hand strike behind Zawada who lost his balance.
Morono’s varied attacks allow him to constantly guess his opponent throughout the process, including a nasty back punch that sends Zawada straight to the top of his head. However, Zawada still refuses to take down even though the damage really starts to pile up as Morono throws punishments at him from all angles.
