Usyk a former Undisputed Cruiserweight Champion of the World, became a two divisions champion and more so, holds Four World titles in the Heavyweight division.
The tricky Southpaw made use of moves to unseat Joshua’s concentration from the opening bell and with that caused issues for the now former two time champion. The fight went the scorecards as both fighters couldn’t get a knockout and the judges scored the fight Victor Fesechenko had it 117-112, Steve Weisfeld 116- 112 and Howard Foster 115-113.
Joshua who has mostly relied on his power was taught a less in the unforgiving sweet science. Usyk movements gave Joshua problems and took a way the focus needed to land a big Knockout shot on the smaller Usyk.
The whole talk in the build up was mostly about the size difference in Joshua who had a significant size advantage and has a good knockout record to support his plan of knocking out Usyk but if there was anyone closer to scoring a knockout, it was Usyk.
The Ukrainian rocked Joshua numerous times with his big left hook and though, Joshua mostly used his ring IQ to recover, he was always looking vulnerable in those moments. Joshua was saved by the bell in the final round as Usyk came firing at him, had him corner on the ropes and connected consistently but paused a few seconds before the bell but before then even Joshua had his guard down and felt exusted.
Usyk was a moving train in the first three rounds, clearly winning them without a doubt. He was very mobile and lading Jabs and moving in and out of AJ’s defence, it was the best version of boxing at Heavyweight.
However, a slowed down after those rounds and AJ capitalised winning the next three round by stalking Usyk round the ring and connecting Jabs of his own. He also attached Usyk to the body connecting brutal shots that could stop fringe level fighters.
Usyk restarted his campaign the seventh round connecting overhand lefts on Joshua chin and by the 10th round he had caused a swelling under his eye but Usyk also suffered a cut under his eye, which bled while he excelled.
Joshua would stagger ones a big right connects but the finishing was always lacking in Usyk as Joshua will hold and forcefully calm the storm.
With the win, Usyk will look towards a unification with WBC champion Tyson Fury, if Anthony Joshua doesn’t exercise the rematch clause on the fight contract and if Joshua chooses a rematch then, he has to undergo a lot of training before squaring up with Usyk with hopes of a revenge.
