Smith ended the fight in the second round with a brutal right hand that sent Castillo flat in his back and while he lay down his legs were shaking seriously to the referee held him down. The fight was waved off immediately and the medical staff wasted no time in attending to Castillo.
The blow was so serious it, knocked Castillo out cold and even while he was taken off the ring in a stretcher the seemed nobsign of a revival, though his hands moved a bit but he was still not responsive.
Smith was making his debut at light heavyweight and his first appearance since losing a unanimous decision and his WBa “Super” 168 pound title to Canelo Alvarez in back in December last year.
Since his loss to Canelo Alvarez, Smith has changed his trainer and is now training under the guidance of Buddy McGirt, an affiliation that had resulted in such a brutal but positive result in his adventure in the Light Heavyweight division.
Smith was clear about his intentions of going straight into a title fight, if he convincingly defeats Castillo but things weren’t in a good place to talk about that as everyone around felt concerned for the Dominican Republic national.
