Former UFC Middleweight contender Yoel Romero will be making his Bellator Debut against Phil Davis in the Opening Bout of the promotions Light Heavyweight Grand Prix on Bellator 266 on 18th Sept.
Following the release of Romero’s medical results were released on Thursday, Bellator President Scott Cooker announced the date and opponent Romero will be facing in his Bellator Debut.
Romero will be fighting the former Light Heavyweight Champion Phil Davis in a bout that takes the promotion back to his Base Sap Center for the first time since Bellator 226, two years ago. The information was first announced by Ariel Helwani before the promotion gave a full announcement.
Romero was initially scheduled to face Anthony Johnson in the opening bout of the Bellator light heavyweight grand prix but that failed to materialise as the 44 year old pulled out of the bout due to an eye injury.
Romero (13-5 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) will be competing for the first time since his UFC dismissal in December, which followed seven years of competing at the top of the UFC middleweight division. His last bout was a unanimous decision loss in the hands of current UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya.
Romero will be looking for his first win since knocking out Luke Rockhold back in 2018 and since then, he has accumulated a three fight losing skid which includes losses to Paulo Costa, Robert Whittaker and Isreal Adesanya.
His opponent Davis (22-6 MMA, 9-3 BMMA) , lost his last bout to Reigning Bellator champion Vadim Nemkov, which snapped his three fight winning streak back in April.
