Manchester United started the game showing lots of energy applying pressure consistently on the Southampton defence in the early minutes if their first away game of the season as they beamed with confidence from their first game of the season.
Southampton picked up later leveling the play and eventually started hammering Manchester United on the break one of which they were able to break the deadlock, forcing an own goal from Fred.
Bruno Fernandes was bullied while in possession in the fore front of a counter attack, Stephens fed the ball to Djenepo and after a quick one – two with Armstrong, Djenepo gave Adams the Ball and the latter shot the ball from just outside the United penalty area. It would have been an easy catch for David De’Gea but a deflection from Fred got the ball into the United goal.
The Red Devils seemed a little too flat footed in the first half as compared to their version against Leeds United, whom they defeated 5 – 1 in the opening fixture.
Manchester United eventually made it 1 – 1 early in the second half after a quick combination between Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes, the Frenchman laid the ball for Mason Greenwood, who leveled the game with a low shot that went through a couple of players, including the Goalkeeper.

Manchester United weren’t at their best and despite the changes, Fred went off for McTominay, Sancho went in for Anthony Martial and Lingard got in for Matic but they still couldn’t break the disciplined Saints defence in their search for a winner.
