Arsenal started the 2021/22 Season poorly, losing 2 – 0 to newcomers Brentford, despite shooting 22 shots in the 90 minutes of play.
Arsenal finished the 2020/21 Season below the top six and with improvement expected this season. However, Arteta will have to go back to the drawing board after such a bad result especially against a side they were expected to defeat.
The game started out with a good play from the Arsenal as expected, forcing the Newcomers into their own half for the majority of the first 10 minutes. However, Brentford forged their way through into the Arsenal half and that ended with the opening Goal.
Arsenal had majority of the possession but had little creativity in the final third and with that, Brentford capitalised on their opportunity after a failed attempt saw the Gunners scramble the ball back to Pinnock, who headed the ball back to into the Arsenal box, Canos got hold of the ball and latched the low ball past Leno in the 12th minute.
Arteta’s Men quickly took control again and tried wearing down the Brentford defence but kept failing though there were more attacks and a zeal to turn back the deficit but thing just didn’t go as planned. Brentford showed so much discipline defensively and almost doubled the lead, only Mbeumo failed to finish properly.
The Second Half started out brightly for the Gunners with Smith Rowe looking like the only hope for the Gunners. More attacks keep flooding into the Brentford Half as they kept calm and did their best clearing their defence. Brentford attacked Arteta’s Men with intent and looked dangerous with their attack when ever they had opportunity to visit the Gunners defence.
Brentford eventually took a two goal lead in the 73rd minute thanks to another sloppy defensive display from the Arsenal defence. A long throw was made into the Arsenal defence and Toner got the ball ahead of White, who was basically bullied all night and the task was to win the second ball but Norgaard was there to head in past Leno for the second goal.
Brentford quickly take the top spot of the Premier League table, while waiting for other teams, playing on Saturday and Sunday.
