Manchester City picked up their first victory of the 2021/22 Premier League season with a 2 – 0 victory over Norwich City at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.
Pep Guardiola and his Men bounced back from their opening day defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, with a wonderful performance that also featured Jack Grealish’s debut goal for “The Citizens”.
Man City 5 – 0 Norwich Video Highlights
The Citizens declared their intent from kickoff, needing just 2 minutes to register a fruitful attack that was later flagged an offside and forced a save from Tim Krul in the 3rd minute. However, the Canaries could keep the unrelenting City out for long.
Six minutes in and City had already taken the Lead, Rodri was clever enough to find Gabriel Jesus on the right of the Norwich six yard box, The Norwich captain pressured Jesus and eventually hit the ball which went Krul’s direction and deflected into the net.
City were unlucky as their second goal got cancelled after a foul on Rashica by Sila got overlooked by the referee, leaving the protesting Norwich idle as the ball rolled towards Torres, who slots home but got cancelled after a check by VAR.
Eventually City took lead the second time, as their £100M summer transfer Jack Grealish scored his debut goal for “The Citizens” after capitalising on a failed offside trap by the Norwich defence. Jesus capitalised on that opening to meet Silva’s through ball, Jesus sends it towards Torres, who missed but Grealish sends it into the net with his thigh.
City had taken full control of the game but failed to make the most of their opportunities, ending the first half with their two goal lead.
Laporte had been the man in the midfield throughout of the game and made the most passes in the opponents half more than all the Norwich side combine. He eventually finds himself on the scoreboard after a corner by Gundogan was poorly defended by the Canaries, leaving him to toe the ball into the net.
