UEFA Champions League and Super Cup winner Chelsea kick-started their 2021/22 season victoriously with a dominant 3 – 0 victory over Crystal Palace at Stanford Bridge on Saturday August 13th.
Patrick Vieira looked to take his winning mentality from his playing days into his coaching as he had never lost against Chelsea during his playing days. However, that was the reverse as the were run over by by the Blues.
Thomas Tuchel primed his boys to bombard “The Eagles” defence from kickoff, chances kept flooding in as the Chelsea forwards kept missing but towards the end of the First Half, Marcus Alonso fired in a perfectly timed free kick to open the scoring.
Vicente Guaita had to chance against that as he got rooted to the bottom of the goal post as it flew high into the top corner.
Chelsea had taken the lead but the drive to get in wasn’t evident in a team that had every bit of their game outclassed by the European champions. However, a second goal soon got in with Pulisic taking up the task of shooting in from close range.
Chelsea were already two goals up but nothing caps a spectacular performance like a stunning long range goal from a debutant and Chelsea academy graduate Trevoh Chalobah took his opportunity, firing in a stunner from 35 yards.
Crystal Palace didn’t look like a team capable of scoring despite making a whole lot of changes. There’s a lot to take away from the game and “The Eagles” will sure need a some confidence as the season is sure going to be long.
The academy graduate Chalobah sure is a vibe at Stanford Bridge and with his recent performance, first at Villareal then a “Man Of The Match” performance against Crystal Palace sure deserves more opportunities from Thomas Tuchel, who displayed squad dept in the win, without top players like N’golo Kante, Thiago Silva and their most recent signing Romelu Lukaku.
