Charles Conwell staged an upset and impressed in front of his hometown fans, stopping formerly unbeaten Juan Carlos Rubio in the third round of their 154 pound fight in Jake Paul Vs Tyron Woodley fight card on Sunday nigh at the at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse, Cleveland Ohio.
The fight wasn’t on the Pay-Per-View televised fights but Conwell (16-0, 12 KOs) sure was spectacular, dropping Mexico’s Rubio (18-1, 9 KOs) in the second round and handed Rubio a one-sided beating in the third round that forced the referee to step in and stop the fight at exactly 2:49 of the third.
Rubio had accumulated a his unbeaten record with low class opponents with his last six opponents accumulating a combined record of 84-90-5. However, things got different in this one as Conwell keep Rubio on the back-foot through out the first round.
In the second round, Conwell connected a big right hand the sent Rubio backwards and then to the canvas. Rubio got up quickly, beat the count and did enough by fending off Conwell to survive the round.
Rubio then looked to get in the fight, letting his hands go more and trying to connect more but Conwell landed a huge uppercut that forced Rubio to hold him and another right hand sent him on retreat.
