Former Super middleweight Champion Callum Smith will be making his Light Heavyweight debut Lenin Castillo on the 25th of September in Anthony Joshua vs Oleksandr Usyk fight card which takes place at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The fight will be broadcasted by SkySports Box Office along with the Main Card which will be Pay-Per-View.
However, the significance and duration of the fight is still unclear as information on if the fight between Smith and Castillo will serve as a 12 round WBC Eliminator or a 10 round fight.
However, Smith will be fighting for the first time since losing his WBC super Middleweight title to Boxing Pound For Pound Star Saul “Canelo” Alvarez at the Alamodome in San Antonio. Alvarez dominated Smith through 12 rounds and won the WBC 168 pound world strap with a Unanimous decision.
Castillo has been in the ring most recently than Smith, stopping formerly unbeaten Ronald Gonzalez (8-1, 8 KOs) in the fourth round of a scheduled 10 round fight in Dominican Republic. The fight was marred by Gonzalez’s undisclosed injury in the first round and couldn’t answer the bell after the fourth round.
Before that victory, Castillo spent 21 months away from the ring after his one sided unanimous decision loss to WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol. Bivol (18-0, 11 KOs) easily strolled to a unanimous decision, dominating him all through to win with scores 120-107, 119-108 and 119-108.
Before that loss, Castillo who hails from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic had only lost a unanimous decision to 175 pound top contenders Marcus Brown and a majority decision to Joseph Williams.
