The question of who is facing Veteran Heavyweight and Former Bellator Champion Fedor Emelianenko (39-6, 1 NC) in his return has finally been answered. Timothy Johnson (15-7) , a former Bellator interim title challenger collide with the Russian on October 23rd at the VTB Arena.
The fight which tops the Bellator Moscow in Russia will be his last appearance in his home country but there is news that “The Last Emperor” will take another fight before drifting off into retirement.
The fight was announced on Tuesday by Bellator, who had tried all possible avenues to secure a big fight for the Pride Championships Legend. The MMA promotion will now have to settle for a fighter currently on their roaster for the event.
Emelianenko was able to face the best in his active years and even in his return was offered the best names to ever engage in a professional MMA. The names includes the likes of Junior dos Santos, Josh Barnett, Alistair Overeem, Fabricio Werdum and Anderson Silva but at the end, Johnson won the lot.
Emelianenko has been able to defeat three of his last four opponents and each of his last five fights has ended in the first round. He knocked out Frank Mir and Chael Sonnen in the first round before losing to Ryan Bader at Bellator Heavyweight Tournament. He has since bounced back from the loss with a Stoppage win over Pedro Rizzo and also Jaideep Singh of the Rising Federation.
Johnson will enter the fight on the back of a loss to Valentin Moldavsky in their Interim Heavyweight title fight this past June. The fight which snapped his three fight winning streak ended a loopsided unanimous decision in favour of Moldavsky.
Johnson knocked out Matt Mitrione, Tyrell Fortune and a unanimous decision of Cheick Kongo in Bellator’s inaugural event in France.
