Bellator 264 Results – Gegard Mousasi Overwhelms John Salter, Stops Him In Round 3
Gegard Mousasi retained his Bellator championship status with a another impressive stoppage victory over top contenders John Salter in the Main Event of Bellator 264 on Friday Night at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.
Mousasi battered a tired Salter with Punches in the third round ending him with a TKO at exactly. 2:01 of round 3 to retained his Middleweight title. The fight card was Aired on ShowTime, following Prelims on MMAJunkie.
Mousasi walked down Salter in the opening round and forced him backwards to the cage, before Salter resorted to grappling. Salter successfully scored a takedown but that position didn’t last as Mousasi found his way back to his feets. Salter tried to score another take down, for ung Mousasi to the cage but the champion landed six knees to the body while in that position.
Salter looked way too tired in the second round and Mousasi noticed and walked down the challenger, who shot for a takedown but this time, it took a lot more effort than his previous attempts. Salter eventually succeeded and had secured temporary control on top, after which Mousasi switched to the top and administered a ground and pound but Salter got saved by the bell.
Mousasi followed up his second round progress in the third and kept walking down Salter, who ones again took the champion down. However that was the beginning of the end as Mousasi found his way up and fired Salter with a flurry strikes, Salter covered up and the referee Dan Miragliotta with intentions of giving Salter time stalled the stoppage but the Challenger had nothing to offer before the fight got waved off.
Mousasi with the win, successfully defended the Middleweight title, he defeated Douglas Lima back in October to win and has emerged victorious in 11 out if his recent 12 outings. However for Salter, this is his second Professional TKO loss and his first loss since 2010
