Former Bellator welterweight champion Andrey Koreshkov put a stop to the quick rising contender Sabah Homasi, who hoped to bounce back from the his knockout loss to Paul Delay at Bellator 264 on Saturday night.
Koreshkov (24-4 MMA, 14-4 BMMA) was able to outclass Homasi (15-10 MMA, 4-4 BMMA) using a consistent use of knees and complemented them with steady take downs as he cruised easily to a unanimous decision with scores 30-27 and a pair of 30-26 at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.
Homasi was quick with leg kicks early in the fight, looking to slow down the former champ and was smart enough to duck away from a spinning kick early in the fight. Koreshkov tied Homasi down on the fence and both connected in a close range with Homasi connecting some knees before they were both separated and moved back to the Center of the Octagon.
Koreshkov tried to land another spinning kick, Homasi countered and was able to tie up Koreshkov again but Homasi counted with a spinning elbow that helped him escape from the trouble. Koreshkov then landed a knee, elbow and an uppercut before the horn was heard.
Both fighters started the fight with kicks as Koreshkov was targeting the legs , Homasi connected leg kicks with ease. However in a minute time, Koreshkov landed a bodyshot that forced Homasi to bend over and the former champ took over, pushing him to the fence and kept targeting the body. A few more knees and Homasi was on the canvas. Koreshkov went infor the finish bit Homasi crawled to the fence and found a way to survive.
Koreshkov took the fight to another level when he grabbed the contender, lifted him up and slammed him mercilessly on the canvas, went on full mount. Koreshkov tried to submit Homasi and failed then went on to try a ground and pound. Koreshkov could have easily ended the fight as a rare naked choke opportunity came into play but the former champion ignored and opted to drill him with knees.
Homasi started the third round with a very wild right hand but Koreshkov dorged that but wasn’t able to stop Homasi from taking him down to the Mat. Koreshkov connected a few knees and found a way to top Homasi’s guard. Homasi held on and was tough as Koreshkov mounted up but was later able to twist himself back on top and ended the fight up but even he will admit, he was totally outclassed.
