The UFC On ESPN 28 Fight Card has experienced a big hit as the heavyweight clash between heavyweights Chris Daukaus and Shamil Abdurakhimov which was scheduled to be the Co-Main event has been taken off the card due to undisclosed reasons.
UFC On ESPN 28 is scheduled to take place on the 31st of July, Live on ESPN after Prelims on ESPN+ from the UFC Apex Facility in Nevada, Texas.
The two were initially meant to fight in the UFC on ESPN 27 which took place this past weekend but got shifted to a new date after Abdurakhimov tested positive to COVID 19.
The fight has now been pushed further to a new date in the coming weeks after another issue in Abdurakhimov’s camp as reported by a trusted source and one familiar with the situation.
Daukaus (11-3 MMA, 3-0 UFC) will be searching for his second consecutive victory this year, his fourth consecutive victory when he eventually faces Abdurakhimov in the new date. His first outing this year saw him knockout Aleksei Oleinik in the first round.
Abdurakhimov is coming off a loss to Curtis Blaydes back in UFC 262, which saw his three fight winning streak feat snapped and since then, efforts to bring him back into the Octagon has failed to yield fruits due to one reason or the other.
