However, Burns went low took Thompson and tried scoring a ground and pound but Thompson was able to find his way back to his feet using the fence as support. Both exchanged a few shots before the bell.

The second round started with both choosing a calculative approach to the fight. Thompson used a kick Boxing approach, landing from a distance but nothing Burns couldn’t handle. Burns also connected a few shots of his own but non his opponent wasn’t able to take. Burns was able to score a knockdown close to the fence before the end of the round.

Thompson switched the pressure, becoming the aggressor and worked down Burns, landing a spinning back kick that forced Burns into action, landing shots and then went for a takedown which was first unsuccessful but then he was able to pull Thompson to the canvas. Both scrambled but Burns was able to control the fight and tried ministering a ground and pound. Thompson was able to find his way back to his feet till the end of the fight.

Burns with the win, found his way back to the win column, bouncing back from his loss to Kamaru Usman back in UFC 258. That loss to Usman saw his five fight winning streak snapped and he made clear in the fight build up, he really wants another run at Usman for the Welterweight title.

Thompson saw his two fight winning streak which includes victories over Vicente Luque and Geoff Neal snapped.
