Full Recap – Jermell Charlo And Brian Castano Battle To Split Draw
IBF, WBA, WBC Junior Middleweight Champion Jermell Charlo takes on his WBO counterpart Brian Castano in a highly anticipated Unification fight with all four belts up for grabs on Saturday night, July 17th at the AT&T Center in San Antonio.
The winner of the fight will unify the Junior middleweight division and will acquire undisputed status for the first time in the four belt era.
Charlo (34-1-0) is heavily favoured for this fight, going in with double the experience Castano will be bring to the ring and since his controversial loss to Tony Harrison back in December 2018, he has grown into a force to reckon, bounced back by reclaiming his belt and most recently knocked out Jeison Rosario in the eight round to unify the WBA and IBF belts with his WBC title.
Castano will no doubt be facing the toughest opponent of his professional career when he get in the ring with Charlo. Kudos to him for retaining his unbeaten record with the level of opposition he has faced, knocking out two of his last five opponents (Michel Soro, Wale Omotoso, Erislandy Lara and Patrick Teixeira, who he defeated with a unanimous decision to win the WBO title) and has a 66.67% knockout rate going in for the undisputed fight.
Charlo has been at the top of the 154 pound division for a long time and has faced better opposition as compared to those Castano had faced, which leaves Charlo a big favourite going into the fight. Castano will be giving up a six inch reach and an inch reach to Charlo.
Looking at their resumes, Castano isn’t an easy fight but Charlo, should be able to deal with any style Castano will be bringing to the ring and depending on Castano’s chin, Charlo should be able to take him out in the championship rounds.
