UFC Middleweight champion Israel Adesanya will be looking to bounce back from the first UFC loss of his career when he takes on Marvin Vettori on Saturday Night in the main event of UFC 263.
Having taken sometime off the middleweight division for some adventure in the light heavyweight division, Adesanya will face Vettori in the rematch of his split decision win back in 2018. The two will have the opportunity of setting things straight as Vettori disputed the score of the first fight.
Watch Adesanya’s First Loss
Adesanya and Vettori both met in the second and fifth fight respectively and have since evolved into world fighters. This time the UFC middleweight title will be at stake and with Adesanya coming in on the back of a loss, Vettori could capitalise on the confidence level of the champion and play with that towards his victory.
Paulo Costa, Yoel Romero, Robert Whittaker, Kelvin Gastelum, Anderson Silva, Derek Brunson and Vettori are among the top fighters Adesanya has been able to put away since joining the UFC, accumulating a 20 fight winning streak before his loss in his last outing.
Vettori has defeated Cezar Ferreira, Andrew Sanchez, Karl Roberson, Jack Hermansson and Kevin Holland since his loss to Adesanya back in 2018 and the final two were impressive, confirming his place as the next in line for the title.
Comparing both fighters, Vettori is a good Stricker but Adesanya is a much better Stricker of the two and the fact that, he was a title winning kick Boxer with Glory FC before his days in the UFC, definitely clears out the competition in that aspect.
For ground work, Vettori has an edge over the champion, who was totally dominated in his light heavyweight adventure with Jan Blachowicz. Adesanya was taken down and dominated on the canvas. However, Adesanya has a good take down defence which could play a key role on whether he comes out victorious or not because Vettori dominated more on the canvas than striking in his last two fights.
