Hearn Reveals Date For Juan Fransisco Estrada Vs Roman Gonzalez Trilogy
June 30, 2021
Juan Fransisco Estrada and Roman Gonzalez will be meeting in a trilogy fight potentially slated for October 16th at a venue on the United States according to information given by Match Room Boss Eddie Hearn during an interview with IFL.
After already giving us a “fight of the year” contender for 2021 with his split decision victory over Gonzalez (50-3, 41 KOs) in their rematch in Match, Estrada (42-3, 28 KOs) will give his rival another opportunity to fight for the WBC and WBA Super Flyweight title.
The venue for the event is still yet to be announced. However, a venue in Los Angeles could most likely be chosen as the initial rematch venue Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson in California was moved to L.A. due to COVID 19 restrictions. Therefore, pondering over a possible venue for the trilogy won’t be a wise option as the “War Grounds” or “The Forum” and “Staples Centre” could be considered in case larger crowds are expected.
Gonzalez picked up a unanimous decision over Estrada in their first light Flyweight contest meeting back in 2012. The event took place at the now defunct Sports Arena in L.A. The two made their second meeting a little more spectacular with both fighters trading shots, back and forth all night to produces a “Fight of the Year” contender.
According to Compubox, the pair broke their weight class record with Gonzalez connecting 391 shots while Estrada connected 314, a combined 2529 punches were thrown on that day.
The fight score was questionable as many believed Gonzalez should have been declared the winner. However, the Judges scored the fight 115-113, for Gonzalez, 115-113 for Estrada and 117-111 for Estrada.
