Canelo Alvarez, who already considered the best pound for pound star in the planet made little work of his WBC mandatory challenger Anvi Yildirim, dropping him in the third round during a one sided beat down that forced the referee to end the fight before the start of the fourth round.

Canelo Alvarez successfully defended his WBC and WBA super middleweight titles for the first time after two months of winning them with a unanimous decision victory over England’s Callum Smith and with the win scored his fasted knockout victory since knocking out James Kirkland in the third round back in 2015.

Canelo looks to solidify his place at the pinnacle of boxing and to make that a reality, turns his eyes towards a unification with WBO super middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders. Announced by Promoter Eddie Hearn after his win after Yildirim, Canelo will be taking on the Outspoken undefeated champion on the 8th of May.

Canelo Alvarez has won titles at the junior middleweight, became a unified champion at middleweight, won the WBO light heavyweight title and has now successfully defended his unified status at super middleweight. He seem to remaining at the weight class as he plans to become undisputed Champion.

Yildirim, though expected to lose somehow tried eating rocks as a 50-1 underdog. He was fighting for the first time in two years and facing the best fighter in the planet. It was obvious his backing by the WBC was taking him towards failure as his last attempt at the title ended a technical decision loss to Anthony Dirrell back in 2019.

Canelo will be looking to prove a point when he takes on Saunders in May. The Brit has been advocating for the fight in a while and having held his grounds by remaining undefeated, Saunders will be looking to make the Mexican understand that the 168 pound division is his yard.

Anyways Saunders has had a few boring outings recently due to his highly defensive but effective techniques but Canelo will be a very different ball game for the WBO champ. We just have to wait and see how he copes in his yard.
