UFC 257 Results : Dustin Poirier Stops Conor McGregor To Avenge UFC 178 Loss

Dustin Poirier was able to avenge his first round knock loss against Conor McGregor at UFC 178 with a 2nd round Knockout victory over the Irish Superstar in UFC 257 headliner on Saturday night in Yas Island, Abu Dhabi UAE.

McGregor (22-5 MMA, 10-3 UFC) was dominant in the first round and controlled the fight, landing consistent lethal strikes consisting of Combos of three to four hits.  Poirier in his part landed legkicks and scored a takedown but the Irishman was able to quickly manuever his way back to his feet.

After enduring a very humiliating first round in the hands of McGregor, Poirier came back for the second with a statement. Poirier consistent went at McGregor with fluries of lethal strikes to the face, ended up cornering him to the cage before dropping him with a left right combination with the first landing straight on the Irishman’s nose.

Poirier jumped on the finish connecting another left before the referee Herb Dean jumped in to confirmed Poirier (27-6 MMA, 19-5 UFC) handed McGregor the first knockout loss of his career at the Ethiad Arena.

“The goal was to be technical and pick my shots and have a big finish,” Poirier said.

The Win was his seventh win in his last eight appearances in the UFC and his second win since losing to retired lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov back in 2019.

McGregor on the otherhand, has lost two of his last three fights and has only won a fight since 2016.

“It just wasn’t where I needed to be tonight,” McGregor said. “I’ll come back again, that’s what I’ll do. I need actretired
