WBC franchise, IBF, WBA, WBO lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez is eye a bout with WBA, IBF champion Josh Taylor, who is presently booked for an all belt unification with WBO, WBC champion Jose Ramirez.
Lopez wants Taylor to come out victorious in the fight as he plans on sealing a show down with the WBSS winner in the coming months.
“They got to make that happen. Absolutely. I would love to do that fight in the UK. The main guy I do want to win from that fight is Josh Taylor. It’ll go to show everyone that we talk a lot, but we back it up,” Lopez told BBC Radio.
Lopez shocked the boxing world with a 12 round unanimous decision victory over one of Boxing’s pound for pound entrant Vasily Lomachenko in October and believes his win over the Ukrainian was flawless and a rematch shouldn’t be considered due to the nature of his victory.
“We beat him fair and square, we beat him clearly,” said Lopez.
“Had this fight been a split decision, then yes, we could talk about something but this turned out to be a unanimous decision for a reason. We outboxed the boxer, we beat the boxer, now it’s on to bigger and better things.”
Lopez believes the boxing world are still to see the best of him and that will be seen when he eventually moves up in weight, first at 140 pounds before his full potential will be seen in the 147 pound division.
“We are resisting my full potential, because we want to make these other fights happen. At 140, you guys will see my full potential. At 147, you will see a lot more,” Lopez said.
For now, Lopez will have to deal with his IBF mandatory challenger George Kambosos, ones everything gets back to normal when the COVID 19 restrictions are lifted.
