Vergil Ortiz Views Terence Crawford Fight, The Easiest To Make At 147
December 11, 2020
Unbeaten welterweight contender Vergil Vergil Ortiz (16-0, 16 KOs) has made clear that the easiest fight for him to make in the 147 pound division is a fight with WBO World welterweight Terence Crawford.
The 22 year old presently holds the WBA Gold Welterweight world title and is viewed as a very big threat to world champions and contenders in the 147 pound division. With that, the Young champ is ready to take on all the big names in the division.
Terence Crawford hold the WBO Welterweight title and according to Ortiz, remains the easiest fight to make among the champions. Appart from Crawford, there is Errol Spence Jr., who holds the IBF and WBC versions of the welterweight titles and Philipino legend Manny Pacquiao, who holds the WBA ‘Super’ title, while Yordenis Ugas holds the the WBA regular strap.
“With Crawford it’s the easiest [fight] to make, I think it would be a very good fight. With Yordenis Ugas it would be a good fight and with Spence he could already be at 154 pounds [by the time I’m in line for a mandatory shot],” Ortiz told Jose Luis Camarillo.
“[A fight against Manny Pacquiao] would be something very big. I would love that fight, although I doubt that they will offer it to me.”
Ortiz believes that he is the next Golden Boy Promotions star after Saul Canelo Alvarez successful split from the promotional company. despite leaving Ortiz sad, the departure of the pound for pound star should pace the way for him to be the next breakout star in the promotion.
“It makes me a little sad, I liked seeing him [Canelo] and from time to time fighting on his cards, but this will open opportunities for others who are on the rise. Golden Boy was focused on Canelo and now they will be [focused] on us,” Ortiz said.
Vergil Ortiz has only been able to fight ones this year due to the Corona Virus pandemic. In July, Ortiz knocked out Samuel Vargas in seven rounds to retain his unbeaten record and also retain his status as a top contender at the Fantasy Springs Casino, Indio California.
