Brazilian veteran Jose Aldo made his way back into the win column with a unanimous decision victory over top bantamweight contender Marlon Vera on Saturday night in the Co Main Event of UFC Vergas 15 at the UFC Apex.
Aldo, went into the fight on the vamback of a loss against reigning Bantamweight champion Petr Yan, was able to to put together a impressive perfomance that saw him cart away a unanimous decision from the Judge’s score cards. The Brazilian legend was able to put together body shots and legkicks, coupling it up with some spectacular grappling that saw him favoured with a 29-28 points on scorecards.
Vera was quick to run after Aldo and looked to be the aggressor, closing down on the Aldo but the Veteran switched on his game early , peppering Vera with He was very calculative bodyshots and constantly looked for loopholes I. His opponents game. He could use to unleash his strkes which saw him connect with blows to the body and a capping brutal leg kick.
Vera grew into the fight as both battled on and fatigue was starting to settle in but couldnt stop Aldo from connecting his brutal attacks. Aldo ran away with the score on judge’s scorecards landing body shots though Vera was able to take this shots well and never stopped going forward while looking to land strikes of his own.
Vera was very successful in the clinch, batteredthe Brazilian from the inside and in that position, didn’t allow Aldo to use his striking capabilities to the fullest. This made Aldo avoid getting in such situations, one of which he switched the fight to the canvas in the third round.
Aldo impressively moved on the mat, quickly switching into a triangle body lock on Vera’s back and after battering the contender from the top, he tried to score a rear naked choke submission but couldn’t before the time ran out.
Aldo quickly turned his focus to the next opponent on his mind, calling out T.J. DillShaw, who will be cleared for a return to the octagon in January. He called on UFC President Dana White to help make the fight happen.
“As far as the next fight it would be [T.J.] Dillashaw,” Aldo said during his post-fight interview. “Dana [White], make it happen.”
