Charles Oliviera picked up the biggest win of his professional career with a loop sided unanimous decision win over former interim Lightweight Champion Tony Ferguson in the Co-Main Event of the UFC 256 on Saturday night at the UFC Apex.
The Brazilian made use of his sensational grappling skills to dominate every aspect of the fight, eventually defeating Ferguson (25-5 MMA, 15-3 UFC) via unanimous decision to improve his winning streak to eight. The scores were 30-26 on all three score cards for Oliviera, whose victory will definitely take him higher in the UFC Rankings.
Oliviera was clear on his intent for the opening bell and fired out bombs at the former Interim champion, who was contented fighting with counters. Oliviera was so aggressive that it finally overwhelmed Ferguson leading to a takedown. Oliveira quickly took the top position landing strikes with Ferguson in trouble. After landing strikes for some time transitioned to armbar, which badly twisted Ferguson’s arm but was saved by the bell.
Ferguson’s Arm looked bad in the second round and Oliviera sensing that was quick to capitalised with kicks and punches before acoring for another takedown. However, Ferguson connected an illegal kick from the bottom forcing the referee to give a short break. When the a toon resumed, Ferguson resumed his ground game, blasting Ferguson from the top and leaving him grounded for the remainder of the round.
Oliviera senced the win and didn’t relent, took Ferguson down again in the third round and dominated Him throughout the remainder of the fight, with a series of submission attempts. Despite not having the opportunity to finish Ferguson, there is no denying he was totally awesome through out the fight and performed beyond expectations.
Oliviera joined the rank of Fighters, who have attained 18 Octagon victories under the UFC and also adds this record to his gradually increasing list of records.
