UFC 256 : Deiveson Figueiredo Wants Henry Cejudo After Brandon Moreno
December 10, 2020
UFC Flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo believes a successful defence on Saturday against Brandon Moreno in the main event of UFC 256 will lead to a future match up with Henry Cejudo.
Figueiredo will be defending the flyweight belt for the second time in 21 days, when he takes on Brandon Moreno on Saturday in the main event of UFC 256, which is scheduled to take place at the UFC Apex with the Main Card Airing On Pay-Per-View following prelims on ESPN/ESPN+.
Figueiredo impressively submitted Alex Perez in the first round of the their UFC 255 Main event and agreed an immediate 21 days turnaround fight against Moreno. However, Cejudo has been making fun of the champ on the sidelines and claiming the champ is only “Babysitting His Title For Him”
“Cejudo’s a masked clown,” Figueiredo told reporters, including MMA Junkie, through an interpreter during UFC 256 virtual media day on Thursday. “I can’t wait for him to step in front of me so I can knock that mask off his face.”
So far, nothing has been finalised concerning the future match up with Henry Cejudo and the only thing on Figueiredo’s mind is the Moreno fight, which he intends to use while hoping to use as a stepping stone into the history books.
Figueiredo remained in Las Vegas after his Victory at UFC 255 and has spent the period, disciplined ahead of the fight with Moreno. Figueiredo said he is presently around the weight limit for the fight and has spent the short period in developing a better battle plan for his next challenger.
“Brandon’s a guy that asked to fight me since the (Joseph) Benavidez fight,” Figueiredo said. “That’s something that irritated and bothered me a little bit, so if he’s asking to fight me then we’ll get in the octagon and he can fight with me.”
The UFC record for the quickest turnaround successful title defenses is 56days which is currently tied by Matt Hughes and Ronda Rousey but that could all change this weekend, if Figueiredo is able to successful defend his flyweight strap at UFC 256 main event.
Figueiredo will definitely be in for a big 2021, if he is able to pull off a victory against Moreno and will plan him in a good position for the “Fighter Of The Year” award after finishing Benavidez twice before his title reign began.
“To win again and take two belts home to Brazil and relax with my family – thinking about that makes me feel very proud of myself,” Figueiredo said. “I want to really dominate my division, I want to make history. But I’m fully open to having a super fight at 135, and I hope this happens soon.”
