RB Leipzig were absolutely exceptional in their performance against Manchester United, edging the Red Devils 3 – 2 at the Red Bull Arena to advance into the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League.
Manchester United needed a point to qualify for the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League but the host welcomed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s with brutality and needed only a minute to take the lead. Their determination was out of this world and United weren’t ready for what was coming.
Manchester United defence got caught half asleep in the opening minute and Wan-Bissaka got sloppy letting a pass from the flank sleep pass him to Angelino, who was very clinical from 15 yard, finishing a well aimed shot into the top corner to give Leipzig a very early lead.
And in the next 10 minutes Manchester United were left with a steep slope to clime in Germany as their host Were able to double the lead with some sleak footballing. Angelino was took the playmaking role this time, opening up the Manchester United defence by lifting the ball over Alex Telles and with that Haidara ran in to finish the ball past David de’Gea.
Manchester United got lucky as Leipzig’s third goal was ruled out for offside after Orban tapped inform close range. United still found it difficult to get in the game and that was due to their flat footedness in the final third.
Manchester United made a couple of changes in the second half and upped their game but still had issues. But just as Fernandes shot got slammed on the crossbar , the resulting attack from there added more salt to their wounds as the German side secured their move Tinto the knockout stages with a third goal.
The counter left United on the backfoot as the two strikers left by Leipzig were able to seize the opportunity to catch United on the break and Miguire was a little hesitant to engage leaving the ball to fall into the legs of the young striker, Kluivet, and United were then 3 goals down.
The Red Devils however found their way into the scoresheet with a Penalty the 80 minute mark after Greenwood was sent down with a naughty challenge by Konate. Bruno Fernandez bundles the ball in to give hope to United.
Two after that Paul Pogba was able to score a second with a skillful finish to despite being subject to a VAR check, the goal stood and United were then a goal away from qualification.
