Manchester United picked up a well deserved 1 – 0 victory over Wolves at Old Trafford, thanks to Marcus Rashford’s stoppage time deflected goal. The win fires the Red Devils up to the second spot on the Premier League table.
United looked to be on their way to a goalless draw with Wolves when Marcus Rashford fired a a left footed shot deflected off Romain Swiss and off the Wolves No. 1 Rui Patricio into the net.
The two sides had their chances,Bruno Fernandez failed to convert Mason Greenwood’s cross from close range in the first half, drawing a good save from Patricio. David de’Gea also made a great save from Saiss near post flick.
Bruno Fernandez made his way down the flank and sent in a wicked cross, which got collected by Rashford. He drives towards the Wolves defense before firing a shot that looks to be going wide before it got deflected by Romain Saiss back on target and into the net.
The Red Devils had a goal ruled out in the 71st minute, when Luke Shaw sent in a sweet cross to Bailey, who headed into the Cavani’s way. His close range finish wasn’t counted as he got flagged for offside. The Red Devils protested and wanted a foul from the build up but VAR didn’t see Coady’s hand close to the ball during the incident.
Wolves gave their best in frustrating their host with United having just one shot in target by the hour mark. The late goal sums up the game as the goal was well deserved after being able to muster a few opportunities in the first and second half combined.
Manchester United are now second on the Premier League with the victory, two points behind league leaders Liverpool FC, with United playing one game less than the Anfield Reds this season.
