Manchester United welcome local rivals Manchester City to Old Trafford on Saturday in a game that could be a big decider for both teams, who have both had one of their worst stats since the start of the Premier League season.
The Red Devils will look to rebound from their 3 – 2 loss to RB Liepzig, which saw them get knocked-out in the group stage of the UEFA champions League in their visit to old Trafford.
Either of the two will make it into the top four, if maximum points are taken from their clash at Old Trafford. The Red Devils have had a resurgence recently, picking up four straight victories that has in some way brought back hopes to their season after a rough start. City too have had a rough start, their worst in more than seven years but has somehow been able to accumulate 18 points, a point behind their Host on Saturday and could also reap the same benefit as the “Red Devils”, if they pull off a win at Old Trafford.
Despite their woefull exit from the UEFA Champions League, Manchester United will like to build on their recent string of victories but will have to work on their concentration in the the first half as they have recently had to come from behind to secure victories. This has recently been the norm for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men and that came back to hurt them in their game against Liepzig. Time wasn’t enough for them to get the game leveled after conceding three goals in the first 45 minutes.
Manchester City rebounded from their loss to Tottenham Hotspur with a 5-0 victory over Burnley and went in 5o defeat Fulham 2-0 at the Etihad stadium but Manchester United have proven a thorn on Pep Guardiola’s flesh as the Blues have found it difficult to defeat United since their infamous 2-0 loss to their local rivals at Etihad.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s tactics will be put to the test against Pep Guardiola, who has proven to be a tactical genius in the sweet science called football. The game will be tactically driven as Manchester United will look to soak up pressure as usually, then catch City on the break as matching City with possession will be difficult except the United play a five man midfield as the played against Arsenal but that will also affect their chances in the final third.
Bruno Fernandez has been Manchester United’s key player this season, having contributed with Goals and Assists more than any other United play and it won’t be surprising, if he does so again in a key game such as the coming Manchester Derby. Paul Pogba scored a stunner against Southampton and was a key contributor in their 3 – 2 loss to RB Leipzig in the midweek and could find himself in the starting lineup again.
Anthony will definitely be involved and Edinson has been on the grass today,” Ole told us, before his press conference.
“But I’m not sure if he’ll make it. Apart from that, we’ve had a couple of days of recovery and we should be ready.”
City have have only lost Result in their last four, which is their 2-0 loss to Tottenham despite having their keyman sidelined. Players like Raheem Sterling and Riyadh Mahrez have found them self some good form with Kevin De’bryne playing the creator.
Predicted Result — Manchester United 1 – 2 Manchester City
