WBC Middleweight Champion Jermall Charlo has been advocating for a fight with Boxing superstar and pound for pound No.1 Canelo Alvarez, who has been enjoying his adventure, winning titles in weight classes other Middleweight.
Canelo Alvarez hasn’t fought at middleweight since his rematch with Gennadiy Golovkin. He has since knocked out Rocky Fielding at super middleweight for the WBA “regular” 168 Pound title, Knocked out long reigning Light Heavyweight Sergey Kovalev for the WBO 175 pound world title and most recently defeated Callum Smith with a decision to win the Vacant WBC and take with him the WBA super middleweight title.
Charlo (31-0, 22 KO) is presently becoming Impatient waiting for a fight with the WBC 160 pound Franchise Champion and is contemplating moving up to 168 pounds in order to get himself in the ring with the Boxing Pound For Pound Star.
“I’m not going to 168. Canelo gotta come to 160, man,” Charlo said at first on an Instagram Live session shortly after Alvarez cruised to a lopsided decision over Callum Smith at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas last Saturday. Then, apparently in a change of heart, Charlo added, “F–k it, I’ll go to 168. I gotta get the fight.”
Charlo hasn’t been in the ring for over a Year now and was last seen winning a close decision over Middleweight contender Sergiy Derevyanchenko in his WBC Middleweight title defence. Charlo also said he has never been called or contacted by Canelo’s former promoter Golden Boy Promotions over a potential fight with the Mexican.
“Canelo never gave me no contract,” he said. “I never got a contract from Oscar De La Hoya, never a call. It’s irrelevant. Never got a contract from none of them I never turned down no contract…f–k out of here.
“We ain’t scared of nobody. Ya’ll tripping. America need a new champ. America need a new swag god. Y’all still on that old sh-t. C’mon, man. Grow up. Canelo never gave me no contract. I ain’t ever ducked Canelo.”
Before the fight with Callum Smith, Canelo Alvarez broke all ties with Golden Boy and is presently a free agent. With that, there seem a huge possibility of a fight between Canelo and Charlo in the nearest Future but right now the Mexican is presently looking to unify the 168 pound division and has expressed interest in facing Champion Celeb Plant and Yildrim for his next bout.
Charlo however is presently interested in cooling down rumors that a fight with Canelo was offered him and he refused to face the Mexican.
“Why would I do some sh-t like that that would put my whole family up?” he said. “Like I’ve been training my whole life, why would I duck a fight with Canelo? Ya’ll stupid as f–k.”
