The IBF middleweight champion was able to drop Szeremeta four times, ones each in the first, second, fourth and seventh rounds before Szeremeta’s corner threw in the towel, immediately after the seventh knockdown to stop the fight the scheduled 12 round battle. Golovkin has now successfully defended a middleweight title for the 21st time.

Golovkin’s one sided beating of the third ranked Szeremeta was the mandatory defense of his IBF Mandatory title. The first two spots on the rankings have been empty throughout 2020. However, Szeremeta never faced anyone on in Golovkin’s level.

Golovkin was coming off a 14 month lay off which spans from his 12 round unanimous decision victory over Ukraine’s Sergiy Derevyanchenko, which earned him the Vacant IBF middleweight title. Szeremeta is coming off the same layoff as he was also on the Golovkin – Dereyanchenko card. His last fight saw him demolish Oscar Cortes in the second round.

Szeremeta started brightly landing a big right hand but Golovkin took it well and towards the end first round, GGG connected a right upper cut that wobbled Szeremeta, sensing him to the canvas but GGG couldn’t finish him off as he was saved by the bell.

GGG was brutal with his punches and was able to send Szeremeta to the canvas ones again with a right hand to the head in the second round. However, Szeremeta was able to beat the could and see out the remaining minutes of the round.

GGG stayed on his Jab through most of the third and was able to land a right uppercut and a thudding right towards the end of the third. A short left hook was all GGG needed to land to send Szeremeta to the canvas again early in the fourth. The challenger beat the count again and courageously continued.

Golovkin chilled on his brutal shots after the third flooring but in the Sixth round went into damaging mode. Connecting an upper cut and straight right that forced his Challenger to move backwards. The seventh round was the last as a stiff jab from GGG sent the challenger to the canvas again. Szeremeta was able to beat the count but that was all he did as the remainder of the round was a onesided beatdown.
