Manchester United join local rivals Manchester City and Brentford in the Semi Finals of the Caraboa Cup with a 2 Nil victory over Everton on Wednesday night at Goodison Park.
The Red Devils started better and from the opening minutes were able to create some activity in the final third which spelled some good signs in their improvement as before now, usually struggle early then grow into games prior to this one.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s United, looked more like what it ought to be as the pressure in the final third kept increasing as the game wore on, while Everton found it difficult to move into the United half. Manchester United had already had five corners by the 10th minute, with attempts from Bruno Fernandez, Alex Telles and Edinson Cavani. Everton couldn’t muster a tangible attack till the 19th minute of the game.
Everton grew into the game and were able to muster a series of attacks in the United half, a header by Calvert-lewin was another dangerous ball the Merseysiders were able to send towards Henderson. There was a penalty cry in the 36th minute after Godfrey went down after a challenge from Tuanzebe.
The game eventually played out goalless but it was entertaining and competitive.
Manchester United kicked off the second half with more pressure and were able to create chances till an incident in the 52nd minute between Mina and Carvani almost saw the later, receive a red as the footage saw Cavani as he was seen shoving Mina to the pitch.
Manchester United eventually opened the scoring late in the 88th minute, when Martial picked out Carvani with a nice pass and the former PSG forward used his left to find the top corner with ease.
A minute after Bruno Fernandez’s shot hit the woodwork Anthony Martial secured Manchester United’s semi final ticket after Marcus Rashford played him in on goal and he finished sweetly past Olsen.
