Canelo Alvarez Vs Callum Smith : Mundo Threatens A Knockout
December 19, 2020
Middleweight king Canelo Alvarez takes on Callum Smith in his second adventure in the 168 pound division encounter and this time, the Mexican admits the risk involved in the fight and everything that might go wrong, when he takes on WBA Champion on Saturday Night in San Antonio.
Smith will be going into the fight with a significant size advantage and is presently regarded as one of the best fighters in the168 pound division after winning the WBSS tournament with a knockout victory over George Groves. He has further said the might could be ending with a brutal Knockout.
“Yes, I like risk. I like taking risks,” said Canelo at the final press conference. “Taking this fight is a risk.
“I’m fighting the No 1 at 168lbs, so these are challenges for me, and I continue to bring challenges forward and I like the risk of it. I like challenges to continue making history.
“Yes, we do know that he is tall. We also know that he has great boxing qualities, so that makes him dangerous, but with my experience and the level of my boxing, we’re ready for this and to continue making history, and taking risks like this. This is what I’m here for.”
Apart from the fact that Smith will be far bigger than Canelo in the fight, he will be fighting in his natural weight, where he has somehow kept his record without blemish. Canelo on the other hand, has fourth just ones in the division and has never been tested with a fighter of Smith’s caliber.
Canelo has lost just a fight since losing to Floyd Mayweather in the super fight back in 2013. He has gone on to win world titles in four different weight classes. However, Smith believes he has everything it will take to hurt and defeat Canelo and concerning knocking out Canelo, Smith says he will go in like every other fight
“I believe if I dominate, I win rounds well. I believe I get a fair share of the judges,” said Smith. “But every fight, I always go in and stick to the tactics and if I do land, I’ve got the power to hurt anyone in the world and I believe I’m a good finisher.
“Over the years, I’ve always got rid of people when I’ve hurt them, so the tactics are always the same for me. I’ll never go in guns blazing, swinging for a knockout, but it’s always there in the back of my mind.
“I’m always ready, I’m quite spiteful when I get someone hurt and this is exactly the same. I’ve got to treat Canelo Alvarez like any other fighter. I’m a world champion and I believe in my own ability. I believe I can beat anyone.”
