Paul Fielder was able to put up a game performance against Rafael Dos Anjos despite taking the UFC On ESPN+ 41 (UFC Fight Night 182) on a five day notice.

Former lightweight champion dos Anjos (30-13 MMA, 19-11 UFC), making his return to the division after four years at welterweight made a statement with a unanimous decision win over the top contender and reminded the world, he still has unfinished business in the lightweight division.

Felder (17-6 MMA, 9-6 UFC) had a lot of success in the fight but this wasn’t his night as Dos Anjos controlled the fight from round to round at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, earning him a pair of 50-45 scores. However, a 48-47 score for Felder made him cart away a split decision victory.

“I was training for a southpaw wrestler, and Paul Felder is an orthodox fighter, but we needed to make this happen,” dos Anjos said. “This was my first fight back (at lightweight), and I have more adjustments to make.”

Dos Anjos announced his intent in the opening round, landing a couple of combinations but wasn’t always quick enough in his escape before a reply was given by Felder. RDA, scored two take downs with his signature move, which is always a striking bait to a take down. He was able to accomplish little with the takedowns.

The second round was more of the same. Howbeit, Felder was able to land more Jabs and hooks but was never able to get a lot of progress offensively as the former champ will always end his moves with a takedown attempt, this included a huge slam towards the end of round three.

Duke Rufus, Felder’s coach alerted him, he will be needing a finish to win the fight, this prompted his urgency and with that, connected his best shots of the fight, which Dos Anjos was able to take and also complemented him with a big right hand that opened a cut in Felder’s eye’s.

Felder, who bleed for the remainder of the fight, faded in the final round. Dos Anjos on the other hand, had the grappling exibition of the fight but never went for a submission. Felder was unable to break free during the period, whether on the fence or on the mat.

Felder has now gone two straight fights without a victory. A fight he took in five days notice after Islam Makhachev pulled out of the fight. Rafael Dos Anjos on the other hand, snapped a two fight losing skid with the win, which also is his 15th career decision victory.

“We had a five-round battle, and I can tell you guys with certainty I am not going anywhere right now,” Felder said.
