UFC On ESPN 18 Weigh In : Smith Vs Clark Replaces Blades Vs Lewis For Main Event
November 28, 2020
The heavyweight battle between Curtis Blades and Derrick Lewis main event battle has been taken off the UFC On ESPN 18 fight card and will be replaced by a light heavyweight battled between Anthony Smith and Devin Clark.
According to sources, Blaydes returned a positive COVID 19 test result, which has forced the UFC to scrap the fight, which was scheduled to be the main event of UFC On ESPN 18 off the card. There were talks about rescheduling the bout for a date in December but nothing has been concluded yet.
Blaydes is on a four fight winning streak and has been on a hunt for a title shot after taking on top contenders such as Junior dos Santos and Alexander Volkov , which could have materialised, if this fight were to take place and he was the victor. Blaydes has just one blemish on his record, a pair losses to Francis Ngannou and apart from that he is 10-0 in the UFC.
For Derrick Lewis, he is on a three fight winning streak and in his last appearance knocked out Oleksei Oleinik. Right now, both Fighters will have to wait for another date from the UFC.
The Co – Main event which features Anthony Smith Vs Devin Clark in a light heavyweight showdown will take the place of the main event as the event is set to continue.
After the loss of the main event, the card didn’t look the same. Howbeit, the remaining fughters went in the scale on Friday with Anthony Smith Vs Devin Clark serving as the Impromptu main event.
Clark made weight with ease, tipping the scale at 204.5 in preparation for his first main event fight. Smith tipped the scale at exactly 205 pounds as he heads into his seventh consecutive main event and will be looking to get back to the win Column after losing his last two outings to Glover Teixeira and Alexandar Rakic, this year.
Unfortunately, Bantamweight Norma Dumont badly missed weight ahead of her fight with Ashlee Evans-Smith. She tipped the scales 3.5 pounds above the Bantamweight limit of 136 pounds. Dumont had in a recent interview explained her issues moving down to the Bantamweight limit and as at four days to the event, still had 13.2 pounds to shed.
The Brazilian was willing to give up 30 percent of her purse for the fight with Ashlee Evans-Smith to move forward as planned.
