Manchester United picked up a well deserved three points after staging a stunning three goal comeback victory over Southampton at the St. Mary’s stadium on Sunday Afternoon.
The Saints had a good day in the office despite facing a good Manchester United side. The Saints were clinical at the final third netting their two goals in just as many shots.
United almost got a chance for a lead from the penalty spot after Ward-Prowse took down Rashford in the 8th minute, however VAR didn’t see fit to award the penalty after the referee waved the game on.
The Red Devils kept causing problems in the final third but despite their dominance fell behind in the 23rd minute. The Saints found a way to score. Ward-Prowse from a set piece, gave an excellent delivery and Bednarek was able to rise above the United defence, sending the ball past David de’Gea.
The Saints doubled their lead after a freekick at the edge of the area gave Ward-Prowse a good opportunity to score a stunner. De’Gea was able to get his hand on the ball but was unable to keep the ball out, leaving United a mountain to climb and the United No.1, injured in the process.
United were able to pull one back before the hour mark. Carvani was able to send in a cross through the flank, Hernandez was able to show clinical edge in front of the goal. The visitors got the game leveled with a clean header from Carvani, who directs Fernandez cross from the edge of the goal into the top corner.
Manchester United staged a stunning comeback victory thanks to an incredible performance from Edinson Cavani. Bruno Fernandez plays in a quick free kick to Rashford, who plays a cross through the Southampton defence and Carvani is there to finish with a glancing header.
