Shakur Stevenson Battles Toka Khan Clary On December 12th

Shakur Stevenson has decided to take a stay busy fight with Toka Kahn Clary , while he awaits the winner of Jamel Herring-Carl Frampton fight.

The 10 round fight which will be fought at a junior Lightweight limit replaces Miguel Berchelt-Oscar Valdez as the main event of an ESPN televised card at the MGM Grand Conference Center on December 12th.

The promotional Top Rank, which promotes Stevenson and Berchelt are presently working hard in order to reschedule the fight between the two, which will be a WBC super Featherweight title fight. Stevenson decided to take the fight on a few weeks notice after the Berchelt – Valdez Fight got postponed.

The rest of the fights on the fight card will still go on as planned, with Puerto Rican lightweight contender Felix Verdejo (27-1, 17 KOs) taking on Japan’s Masayoshi Nakatani (18-1, 12 KOs) in a lightweight battle, while Edgar Berlanga (15-0, 15 KOs) a super middleweight knockout artist from Brooklyn will take on a yet to be determined opponent.

The undefeated, former WBO super Featherweight champion Stevenson is by virtue of his reign, automatically the mandatory challenger to Herring’s Junior Lightweight title. However, Herring is already making plans to defend his belt against Carl Frampton.

Stevenson will be making his second appearance as a junior Lightweight, after knocking out Felix Caraballo (13-3-2, 9 KOs) in the sixth round of his debut in the division, a fight which took place at the MGM Grand Conference Center.

Kahn Clary (28-2, 19 KOs, 1 NC) , a southpaw from providence made little work of Veteran Jonathan Perez (38-26, 30 KOs, 1 NC), stopping him in the second round of their fight on October 29th in Rhode Island.

Khan Clary recently agreed to face Abraham Nova on an ESPN televised card on June 25th but that didn’t materialise as Khan Clary pulled out of the bout due to personal reasons. Nova replaced him with Avery Sparrow (10-2, 3 KOs, 1 NC), defeating him with a 10 round decision to stay undefeated.
