Rachel Ball picked up the Interim WBC Super Bantamweight title with a wide Unanimous decision Victory over Jorgelina Giannini on Saturday night at Wembley.
The newly crowned interim champ had a difficult start to the fight and struggled to find her range in the first five rounds. However, the table got turned in the second half of the fight as she dominated and controlled things to the final bell.
Ball was able to earn herself a wide Unanimous decision from the judge’s scorecards. Two of the judge’s Victor Loughlin and John Latham, both scored the fight 99-91 for ball while, Mark Lyson scored it 99-92.
After the fight, Ball couldn’t help but express happiness for the result, siting how much effort She had imputed in her preparation.
“I’m just happy,” Ball said. “It has been a made week, but I am glad I kept myself together and dealt with it.”
Guanini took the fight on 10 days notice after Ebanie Bridges withdrew from the fight, which was initially scheduled for the Vacant WBC Bantamweight title. Presently, the reigning super Flyweight champion, she should be at least a few pounds higher than her supposed weight class, but however, due to her absence from the ring, she was far above her weight limit.
Ball was came in six pounds over the Bantamweight weight limit and twice The British Boxing Board of control (BBC) came in to check her weight. She even had to cut her hair but was still still above the weight limit.
The BBC had to add their interim super Bantamweight title and though she still didn’t make the weight, she was close, allowing the fight to continue.
Ball had the reach advantage and towered over the Argentine , this left her dominating the fight but at-times got issues as Guanini moved well and made her miss, capitalising on those misses for a good counter. Towards the end of the fight, Ball was in total control and Guanini in complete retreat. Her stamina had taken over and Guanini ran for the remaining seconds leaving Ball unhappy.
